From 'Too Sensitive' to Intuitive Superpowers
If you've ever been told you're 'too sensitive', chances are you have untapped intuitive abilities just waiting to be trained.
The Park Revelation
I was in the park recently with a friend, discussing what it means to be highly sensitive. As we chatted, I accidentally tuned into her energy field. In a flash, I noticed a collapse in her energy—and here's the fascinating part: so did she.
She immediately startled like a deer, stopped mid-sentence, and looked up saying, "My energy just collapsed!"
I apologised and shared what I'd noticed, unsure why I'd connected in or what I'd seen. But I told her: "This is evidence that you can read energy. That was such a subtle shift, and you felt it immediately."
As a highly sensitive person, you're reading information and people all the time, to a much higher level than most. She disagreed at first, so I shared a story that changed her perspective.
The Kitchen Encounter
Years ago, my mum had a couple visiting for the weekend. I came home and walked into the kitchen to find the four of them laughing together. But something was off. Jane (not her real name) seemed clearly upset to me—so much so that I assumed she was grieving a death.
I remember asking her several times if she was okay, if she was sure she was okay. It was so evident to me that something was deeply wrong. Yet it wasn't evident to anyone else.
After this encounter, her partner picked up on my concern and spent the next couple of weeks asking what was wrong. She eventually told him she wanted to move back to Australia to be with her children. They separated shortly after.
Jane later told my mother that "I ought to be careful with my sensitivity." That was an important lesson: what was clear as day to me as a highly sensitive person was simply invisible to others.
As I recounted this story, my friend recalled a recent experience of her own, validating this truth—people don't see what we do.
The Cost of Sensitivity
This heightened awareness often leads people to say:
- "You're overly sensitive" or "too sensitive"
- "You think too much" or "you overthink"
- "Don't worry about it!"
But here's why it's crucial to recognise and develop your intuitive sensitivities:
To filter what you're picking up, reducing overthinking, self-doubt, and confusion
To release what you absorb that isn't yours to carry
To grow your confidence as you become certain of what you're picking up
To reduce overwhelm, since you're processing far more information than most people, which can lead to exhaustion much more quickly
From Self-Doubt to Self-Trust
These days, I don't doubt myself—and you don't need to either. I know what I've picked up. I can read someone or a situation, which helps me sense when to share, when to lean in, when to ask questions or stay silent. Or conversely, who to avoid and keep clear of.
As highly sensitive people, negative comments about our sensitivity can fuel our self-doubt. Just because others don't notice what we do, or aren't interested, we think:
- I'm just being silly
- I'm being foolish
- I'm just overthinking
But when we start taking our hunches—those subtle feelings or knowings—seriously, things get really interesting. We:
- Develop a powerful radar for people and situations
- Become super connectors on a one-to-one level and within groups
- Replace self-doubt with self-confidence in ourselves and our knowing
Your Intuitive Superpowers
Managing our sensitivity is a skill set that most of us are never taught. I want you to know: you already have intuitive superpowers as a highly sensitive person. You just need to learn how to listen to them and develop them.

A Perfect Example: Aimee's Journey
Aimee is a perfect example of this. She has a huge heart and is very sensitive. She's discovered that she's a channel, and her way is through her art.
"I am an intuitive soulful artist… I am creating large-scale expansive paintings that transmit a radiant light to those who stand in front of them." — Aimee Henderson
During her intuitive training, Aimee discovered another exciting ability: hearing thoughts. Yet a few years ago, before she started developing her intuition, she wasn't aware of any of this.
Highly sensitive people are often, in my experience, natural intuitives, channels, and mystics—it's just a case of discovering how. This is why so many become therapists, healers, coaches, enter caring professions, or are artists.
Your Authentic Calling Awaits
Discovering and strengthening your intuitive gifts offers different rewards, but one of the greatest is becoming your authentic self and manifesting your calling—just like Aimee and countless other clients I work with.
Or like me, who took those reading skills and developed them to another level—now reading people's traumas, ancestral patterns, and past lives. I didn't know I had that ability until I started exploring and developing those skills. Over time, it expanded and grew. But it all started with being told I was 'too sensitive'. You will be no different.
