How to discover your Soul Mission: It’s the journey not the destination

soul mission

Take the first step

What happens for my clients (and myself included!), is that when it comes to uncovering our Soul Mission or our Calling we all too often get stuck on trying to  leap to figure out ‘the end point’. Of course it makes logical sense because you want to know what you’re aiming for to reach that point, right? So we keep asking, is it this job or career? Is it this training? Should I teach this subject? And so on. But this is where we are missing the point completely and where the work of soul learning is completely different to the conscious mind.  This is because our gifts and knowledge that we will share are only found during the fog and mystery of our journey.   So in fact we must focus on our journey and the mysterious process of evolving. This is going to take you to your destination and reveal your calling.

Imagine that your soul mission is the mountain peak and you’re at the bottom. No amount of shouting in frustration ‘why am I not there yet’ is going to help you get to the summit. It’s also just illogical and kind of silly to be annoyed that you're not at the top of the mountain when you’ve not started walking yet - right?  Well discovering your Soul Mission is no different. You have to take the journey to get there. Yes you may not know the path, yes you might not have met some of your guides yet, yes you might feel lost along the way, yes it might be frustrating and scary… but this is the adventure, this is the path of the soul with a mission, which yes, is not always easy however you need to take that first step regardless.

It’s about your evolution and journey

Your personal evolution is a very large part of this path. The lessons you learn about yourself, the knowledge you gain from overcoming personal challenges, the interests or skills you develop, the method used to tackle certain problems - you are developing a bank of knowledge, which may just become a large part of your service to others. But you've got to do the work first. You've been seeded in the Earth, you're growing roots and you're pushing through the soil to reach the Sun, getting ready to bloom. Just think, if you planted a seed you wouldn't keep digging the seed up and shouting ‘why haven’t you flowered yet?!’ you would simply keep giving it the nurturing conditions it requires to grow to its full potential, wait and trust. You are no different.

I will give you a personal example. When I ask about work and my purpose or what I should be doing I repeatedly have the same vision of myself holding a microphone in front of a conference room filled with people and signing books. It leaves me bewildered as it is currently a far cry from what I do now!! So my conscious mind immediately jumps into overdrive asking: What topic is the book on? What am I talking about? Who am I helping? Is this a metaphor? When will this happen? And on, and on… but of course, I get no specific answers. Why? Because it's too big a leap for me to fathom and I’m not there yet - I am not that woman yet as I have not taken the journey of learning which is the most important part.  You may not have these sort of ‘visions’ but you may have a sense of something good coming…

Intuition living and trust

Along the path, it's really natural to feel lost or overwhelmed or lacking in confidence.  A large part of the journey to discover your Soul Mission is learning the language of the soul to receive guidance on uncovering our Calling, which speaks to us through intuition. This takes trust, support and time to develop your intuitive inner guidance system. We have to be willing to take risks, to do things differently to the mainstream path which is in love with logic. We have to have courage to follow this quiet voice or intuitive feeling that whispers gently to us. We need the space to do that, we need to find or learn the right tools for us that can support our intuitive voice which may include finding mentors that can help to guide our skill development and give us reassurance.

We also have to learn and trust that we're not going to get all the answers upfront because that will not serve us or our development. We have to be willing to sit with the unfamiliar or unknown, with the discomfort of change whilst trusting our path through the mist will eventually bring us to a new shore via our inner compass. The more that we follow our intuitive feelings, the stronger they will become, and the more confidence we will place in them as the answers arrive.  This can also be in the form of our 'knowing' being proved to be correct.   We may not know the whole answer yet but we know we can trust in the intuitive intelligence within to guide us. We are really learning an ancient art - to be in communication with the universe around us, as well as our soul, which takes time and practice. But it is fundamental to lead us to where we need to go.
