What finding your calling actually looks like

wooded path with golden light

What does it mean to find your calling? What does it actually look like to become who you're meant to be?

There is no single path, method, or industry. Whether you work in traditional corporate or academic settings, or take an alternative approach, you may find yourself becoming a channeler, earth worker, bridge builder, space holder, the advocates, visionary, messenger, or healer.

Here's what I notice about every single one of these paths: each one requires the person to evolve into their deeper potential self—someone who is capable of doing the work. This isn't about adding a new skill or credential. It's about transformation, a shedding and a becoming of who you truly are.

It requires people who are doing the deep work, who have faced their shadows, who have learned to trust themselves and their gifts. People who are learning to trust and follow each intuitive step that is revealed to them. It needs you—whole and healed and still healing. Yet you are already the perfect vessel for what you came here to deliver and be. Your skills, your history, your experience, your interests—all of it matters.

Discovering your calling is an act of both discovery and creation. It's rarely a straightforward path. It means breaking out of molds, diverting from your original plan or modality, and allowing your creativity, intuition, and gifts to both guide you and be developed.

You won't be given all the answers. You are following a feeling, pulling at a thread, practicing and developing, healing and learning and understanding, and then taking the next step as the path and the project or the role unfolds. Your calling will not be found in a job ad. It will be discovered by you.

I want to share some real examples of people following their calling—people I have worked with and witnessed doing the deep work of answering their soul's call.

Stories of Soul Mission

Aimee Henderson -  Artist

"My paintings transmit a radiant light to those who stand in front of them."

Aimée is an artist whose work channels light that has a profound effect on those who stand in front of it. She is a shining example of what can happen when we allow our sensitivity to lead (thereby becoming a strength), together with what can emerge when we start to develop our intuitive abilities and let them flourish. She has become a visionary artistic channel who is following her calling. Witnessing her journey to find her visual style as an artist, to have the courage to pursue her ambitious visions for her work, and trust each unfolding step is inspiring.

Sebastian (Basti) Deans — Channel, Shiatsu Therapist and Teacher

Basti is a channel who has been tasked with developing a technique to align 'energies'—Heaven, Earth and Heart. Activating and blessing the Earth whilst harmonizing internal and external worlds. He has started running workshop days to teach the technique to others so it may be performed globally. Part of his task was coming to understand the technique and exactly what he was meant to be doing.

Cecilia — Earth Activist

Not all activism involves taking to the streets. But it can mean pushing your boundaries, leaning right out of your comfort zone, and taking huge courageous leaps—even after retirement, like Cecilia. A year after the death of her beloved husband, Cecilia felt something wake up in her, like a dream she'd forgotten sitting in the back of her mind. There was something she was meant to be doing. Her connection to nature had always been intuitive and strong, and she realized she was being called back home to Brazil to help regenerate and reforest the land to support the healing of the earth. Fast forward a year, and with the help of her family, she has now bought the plot and will be relocating to start the project.

The academic called to bridge two cultures, East and West, to help transform, educate, and advance their native country's approach to education and wellbeing through introducing helpful Western ideas and models—whilst also inspiring Western colleagues with the best of their Eastern wisdom and artistry.

The academic called to start their own business to hold compassionate, honest, and playful Think Tank and networking spaces for businesses to explore applying green agendas to business in real and manageable ways collaboratively.

The Advocates and Representatives

The reluctant writer, podcaster, activist, and educator who became an advocate and public speaker for their disenfranchised community after healing their own trauma from a shared experience.

A coach who is an aspect of the sacred fierce feminine, teaching others to trust their intuition and knowing through their own acceptance and embodiment of their nature.

The Journey

The journey to finding your calling can be uncomfortable because it feels uncertain. You are continually following your intuition, following hunches, feeling your way, organically discovering the answers. There are moments of deep uncertainty. Yes, you might step away from opportunities or communities who no longer align, or work that you have outgrown, or relationships that are stagnant.

But here's the truth I keep coming back to:

When you're doing the work you're meant to do—even when it's hard, even when you're uncertain—there's a 'rightness' to it. A sense of alignment that no comfortable, safe, 'normal' path can provide.

Maybe you'll see yourself in one of these paths. Maybe you'll recognize the stirring you've been feeling.

It's the difference between surviving and truly living. Between going through the motions and answering the call.

So if you're feeling that pull, that whisper, that knowing—trust it.

Your soul work is waiting. You're more ready than you think.
