Lorna Client Experience
‘You’ve fundamentally helped me change my life on such a deep level words can't cut it. I will be forever in awe and grateful.’
What would you tell someone curious about trying EFT sessions with me?
I would say work with Nicole. Nicole is a powerhouse of a woman who is an INCREDIBLE, direct, empathetic and understanding EFT therapist. You single handedly held space and guided me through my personal trauma each week, in a manageable way so I could process and integrate the suffering I was too scared to face alone that was making me ill and ruining my wellness.
I have had massive transformations with you, so whenever a friend is in a bad place I just immediately say ‘work with Nicole’. When you need to face your difficult shit, instead of dancing around it, have EFT or intuitive healing with Nicole. You're like an anchor, you're a place that feels safe to deal with your pain that feels too scary to face on your own and make positive progress.
Why did you come for EFT sessions originally?
Overwhelm, anxiety and illness I felt physically unwell because of my mental load. I felt trapped because I didn't know how to ‘get my feelings out’ of my body. Grief was the last drip in a glass that took me into not being able to function to do normal things. I was really terrified of my mental health spiralling out of control. I had done yoga, meditation, all different types of techniques, and I knew that nothing I already knew was working - and my friend recommended you.
How has it helped? What has changed?
Anxiety
My anxiety levels are so much better and I’m not in a place of overwhelm. There is a middle ground now, rather than there being this pendulum swing in my states. I am aware of my state of being throughout the day and I am in a dialogue with myself all the time.
Boundaries
I have addressed my boundaries and that's the daily practice. I know how to have an inner conversation with myself now. Before I had physical manifestations and emotional overwhelm and they felt really separate. But in our sessions, it was different from talking therapy - because my body could let that stuff go, things I didn't even know it needed to let go of.
Intuition
Before with my intuition, it was like my radio station was just crackling, but you showed me techniques and stayed with me in a process so I could fine-tune it to hear what it was saying. My intuition now feels familiar and it's something I've had a relationship with in past lives as well as this life. But being given permission to trust it, being given a place to practice trusting and have a weekly check in after I have done it is the therapy really.
What was it like to work with me?
I really have an issue with trust, but I completely trust you. I completely trust that I can say anything to you and I knew that in a 30 minute trial session. I knew when we came off the call, this was not going to be bullshit and that was very reassuring for me.
Our sessions became a place for me to put my intensity instead of feeling like it was wrong, that it was a place to work with it and a place for it to be respected - by me and you.
What were the most powerful aspects of the sessions for you?
Past experiences
The most powerful was when, in our sessions, we were tapping through a past experience, and we would reach a point in my body, where it would usually become a blackout or a seizure, that we tapped and dialled it down. That was a life changing thing for me that I can go through the emotions and come out the other side.
Not afraid of my feelings
Fundamentally the sessions made me not feel afraid to experience my feelings because nothing can paralyse me if I have support to work through them. I really don't think that I could do it by myself, knowing that I can have a session, where I can seek support and have that resource that I intuitively trust - that's never existed in my life before. Even though I've done talking therapies and CBT. I’ve been open to lots of different therapies, teachers and lifestyles - but I connected with your work, it is also a way to have this inner dialogue before overwhelm cripples me.
Big feelings
I thought I needed to do some cardio to channel my big intense feelings, but actually what I needed was to be witnessed, guided, feel safe and accepted to talk through some of the stuff I've never put words to before. You hold a space for the big yucky, mega shit that no one else can go near.
How did you find the sessions with me?
Focused and value for money
I found the sessions to be potent and focused, no bullshit straight into the meat and therefore value for money. Every minute counts - ‘Right what are we going for?’ You cut to the chase which I really appreciate.
Putting words to my experience
The thing I gained with working with you opposed to any other therapist I've worked with before - is you can tune into my intuition. You are able to put words to the thing that I haven't quite grasped yet which takes me to exactly the place that I want and need to go.
Guided me
I trust you as well. If I feel overwhelmed or stuck, I feel our relationship is such that you can take my hand and take me in the right direction. I trust that it won't be dangerous for me, or it won't be overwhelming.
Different tools and approaches
I really appreciate how you can guide me in different directions (using different methods), sometimes we do a meditation, sometimes we do tapping, sometime intuitive healing... I really appreciate your approach - as it feels like I can say ‘help me!’ and you say ‘okay let's do xyz’ - rather than okay, let's talk and talk and talk and talk, as there is no relief with talking for me. Whereas this creates an energetic shift, like coming out of a sauna or yoga class, there is a movement of energy and a reset that I really appreciate.
Working on different levels
Sometimes I have to pull my socks up and think right, we're gonna go big here - but then a flushing, a release, a processing happens. It satisfies me on different levels: my emotional, mental and spiritual self.
How did you find my therapeutic approach?
Being real
With other talking or body therapists I've always felt I had to slightly filter what I say so I didn’t not shock or overwhelm them… or give them material to not judge me or pity me… I felt immediately with you that even if I tried to hold something in or rephrase it to make it more palatable, it was pointless - that you were able - and actually wanting to hear 'the truth'.
Not editing myself
It was therapy for me in itself to not feel 'too much'- to be able to put the hard shameful stuff into words. In doing so, I realised a lot of it wasn't even mine that I was carrying. It was also strange to realise that I have spent my life editing my personality - even with my therapists! So thanks for being real on every level.
Put a lid on it
There's a power in knowing that for an hour a week, you can give a problem space to be aired and then put it away again. I knew there was difficult past stuff I needed to face which was draining - but I liked that I was able to come for an hour, open it up and then close it again. The fact that you said ‘you don't need to journal on it or anything the work is done now’ was helpful. You don't just open a can of worms and it's left open, we can look at it, then put the lid back on and pop it to the side until next time.
Supported in crisis
When I was in utter crisis, to have someone else be in it with me was very, very therapeutic. To be respected in a crisis and be honest about my experience was very valuable to me. A breakdown is a real thing, and to have you as an example, of someone who has been in a pit and pulled yourself out of it was exactly the inspiration I needed too. You can be totally normal and have an appetite for the intensity of life without being nuts.
Voice for my inner child
All the denial of my childhood, it gave a place for that to be okay, for my voice as a kid to be heard. Any inner-child work I had done before has felt really fluffy, whereas now I have a genuine respect for my inner child as she knows how to endure. Life won't always be rosey. The inner wisdom of my inner child was really key to helping me. That connection with my inner child wouldn't have happened if I hadn't done the work with you on my resentment to my Mum and being a Mother.
Relief to be honest
My child self had been denied all my life - so the absolute relief at being able to express and be honest about my experiences, to explore those relationships and release the soul ties with each of them was very useful. It felt very validating because my whole childhood felt like it was shut up, that I was wrong. But I learnt I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't understood. That was very helpful to me.
Explore together
The relief that comes from being heard, being listened to and not being ‘therapised’. You hold a space to be curious about what is alive in my emotional experience as we investigate. This is a place for you to be your own answer and not be analysed. It's really helpful to feel like you've got someone on your team.
Any unexpected surprises doing the work?
Practicing my boundaries with you
I was surprised when I had that point where I said I can't do this anymore with you. I didn't understand that what I was learning about ‘practising my boundaries’ was going to play out in real terms between me and you and the way we work together. That was just a confirmation for me that it was safe to have boundaries because you responded so well to me, saying ‘I can't do this approach right now’ so I didn't feel rejected. That was massive.
Supported in being boundaried
Not being told well, our journey is finished now. I felt brave to come back and feel confident I'd not upset you, or offended you or criticised your work. I could tell that wasn't what you were hearing. In fact you'd flagged it a few weeks before (a shift in how we worked together). To be able to bring the concern I had about you and me to our session was a surprise. It gave me security I guess - that I won't be ousted for being intense. But also my healing has increased a level since then.
