Ways to communicate with your Spirit Guides for support to discover your Soul Mission
Our spirit guides are always with us, even if we're not aware of it consciously. They are eager to make contact with us and communicate, to help guide us in life - but most people will never acknowledge them, or be aware of them, let alone listen, and communicate with them. This is where some of these tools can help you connect with your spirit guides to help you in life or with your Calling.
Dreams
One way of being in touch with your guides is through your dreams. When the conscious logical mind is quiet, it can be the perfect way to make contact. Firstly, however, we want to begin to remember our dreams. ‘Dreams of Awakening’ by Charlie Morley on lucid dreaming has some good tips for you, if you are interested in being more conscious in the dream state. A key to remembering your dreams is a strong desire to want to remember them. Before you go to sleep, set a strong intention, begin to say to yourself ‘tonight, I will have a dream and I will remember this dream’. Have the longing to remember your dreams. Keep a dream journal and when you wake up make sure the first thing you do is to write down your dreams.
Once you develop this habit before you go to sleep, ask for one of your guides to visit you in your dream. You may want to ask to simply meet them or for some guidance on a topic or for healing. When I practice this, there are two ways I know, I have been visited. First, I may have a strong visual memory of the dream - a powerful example for me was; jumping on columns of fire following a fierce feline goddess, after research realising it was a visit from Egyptian goddess Sekmet. The other is I can wake up with no memory of the dream, but I am glowing, surrounded by this warm, loving light, smiling as though I have returned from another realm or entered a state of dhyana as I slept - embodying a shift. See what your signs are…
Meditation
These can be very fun exercises to play with as they can open us to a new world! Firstly, we want to start with ‘connecting to our guides’ - having a felt sense of their presence. Listen to this free audio meditation to learn this. Then, like any other relationship with time and effort we can deepen this connection. We can then begin to ask for healing and guidance.
One method of receiving guidance is in mediation. Taking yourself into a meditative state, you can open into a visualisation where you ask to meet with one of your guides, perhaps imagining you are walking to meet them in a sacred space or garden to connect or ask for help with a question. I use the word visualisation loosely as you can play with the information that comes through all your senses, what do you - hear, feel, see or just know. Make a note of the experience and what you glean.
Channel Writing
I love channel writing and anyone can do it, again it just takes practice and belief.
When I look back, I actually started doing this when I was about 10 years old! (which I realise now might be a bit unusual…). I also spent more than a decade doubting myself. I didn't realise, until I started practising Reiki, that what I was writing was guidance and all of these messages which were flooding through me, needed to be written down for the client. I realised, then that it was exactly the same feeling I previously had and that I was writing messages from guides.
I do this practice most days. It's a way of directly contacting your Guides and asking questions or receiving guidance on any subject. There is a useful book called The Automatic Writing Experience that you could look up on the subject if you are interested in starting this as part of your practice (this book talks you through the process). If you have audible, it's free as part of the membership. For me, I asked the question in my mind, I ‘switch off’ the cognitive thought process and just listen then write the response. When the words come through it often has a warm and loving quality to it, even if the news is direct.
Through this method, I feel a consistent sense of support and can also get detailed information I need. Although we may not get the full answer or pictures, straight away, we might receive encouragement or nudges.
These guides are not your crystal ball, they are there to aid you on your journey as you learn, to take the best path possible, to become your highest most evolved self and move past current problems with greater ease, they're not here to tell you the future. But we have to be open to hearing (sometimes answers we don't want to hear but need to). We also need to build our confidence in the practice as well as learn to trust that the experience is real in order to deepen it.
Intuitive Coach or Clairvoyant
Personally, about once every six months or less, I like to see a friend who is a Channel or have a reading with someone I trust to get an outside perspective on where I'm at and where I am heading. A lot of the time it's about fulfilling a need for support and encouragement. It can feel like a lonely process trying to figure out your direction on your own. For me, I can get to a point where I’m circling around in my own mind wondering if I am going anywhere and I can't see the wood for the trees!
Having a reading helps me to keep my faith and gain a sense of the bigger picture - as the Intuitive Coach or Clairvoyant can reflect back to me where I'm at and help me to focus on what I need to look at next, which is usually eye opening or reaffirming. It's also a way that your guides can speak to you in a very direct way without ‘you’ getting in the way - which we all do i.e. they can let us know that we need to ‘stop worrying about this or stop side tracking with that etc’. Often we can be our own biggest problem on the path - ha!
Clearing blocks
Get some help to clear any energetic or mental blocks you may have to getting in contact with your intuition. These may be completely unconscious unbeliefs or activation of the chakras, or past life trauma healing, that needs to happen, who knows! One of the biggest blocks to connecting to our intuitive intelligence is our own unprocessed wounds and emotional trauma. It's like trying to hear a quiet voice in a thunderstorm, it's not gonna happen. If this sounds familiar, then you need to get some healing support to work on this first.
Personally for me with the work that I do I take my self care very seriously. I do intuitive healing on myself daily, every 2 to 3 weeks I have a body code session to clear anything that's coming up for me emotionally or through anything I have picked up from my clients. I also see other healers and mentors in different modalities from time to time to support my self development, which in turn deepens my connection to my intuitive intelligence. Self development never stops and neither does the deepening of our intuitive connection.
Play, Confidence and Trust
One of the best things you can do when it comes to connecting with your spirit guides is to take a light and playful approach to your experience - leave the self criticism and self doubt at the door please! Be willing to set aside your logical mind. Be willing to open to your intuitive experience and give it weight. Be willing to believe that what you are experiencing when you make contact is real and you’re ‘not just being silly’.
Half the battle is having the confidence to own our experience, to know what we're experiencing is ‘real’, and acknowledge that we are connecting with spirit guides. We need to learn to be receptive and open up to the subtle realms through practice, because they're already there, and always have been since birth. On some level, you are aware of them or have encountered them.
Your spirit guides are eager to help support you and want to communicate with you but they won’t ‘interfere’ unless you ask for their help as you have a free will. You just have to be willing to reach out and try, with the desire to connect. They are part of your support team and they want to help you, so why not let them help you grow into the greatest expression of your true potential?
