EFT connects to the Emotional body

The body is the doorway to the subconscious mind and emotional states, from both the past (that which is unprocessed) and also those current experiences which are having an impact on our state of mind. We have an intuitive understanding of this link, which is represented in cultural turns of phrase such as:

  • I have butterflies in my stomach = Excited or anxious

  • I feel sick thinking about it = Anxiety

  • I need to vent my spleen = Anger

  • I’ve not got the guts to do it = Courage

  • I have a gut' feeling = Intuition

  • I'm heartbroken = deep sorrow

  • I feel spineless = Fearful

We have an understanding of the associated link between types of emotion and often where we sense it in the body (although that is individual) - because the language of emotion is felt and expressed in our body. We don't step outside of our bodies and go into a closet to experience our emotions do we?

We experience them IN our bodies - the heavy stone weight of grief on our chest, the stress headache, the tense frustration in our shoulders, the gripping in our throat when we feel scared to talk, the blank mind when shocked, the fog in our minds when we are confused etc.

Let's do a quick experiment together to explore this in your experience.

Take a moment and close your eyes. Briefly scan your body and notice your emotional tone and any-physical tension current or past.

Now as an experiment, bring to mind a situation currently or in the past that made you feel angry.

Now scan your body again.

Be curious.

What do you notice?

Where is there tension or holding in the body? What sensations are you aware of, where are they? What did you notice - subtle and loud? Was there habitual or familiar tensions that arose for you?

Open your eyes, let go of the memory and shake your body.

You can repeat the same exercise recalling an anxious memory or grief etc.

Learning to map the body-mind-emotions in this way is simple but powerful.

This method is a key to develop a rich relationship from the reality of our experience and what is truly alive for us. This listening is us developing a relationship with our subconscious mind, through the body.

Connection is key to healing, as healing comes when we connect to the underlying cause of our current suffering and begin to resolve emotions from the past.

Think of your body like a CD.

Like a CD there is no visible information about our history on our body when you look at it, scars and injuries aside! It is only when you put a CD  in a  music system that suddenly a stream of music or meditation etc flows out. You can access that information but you need to use the right equipment. Your body is the same. The tech, in this case, is EFT.

Your body is intelligent. Your body remembers. Your body is a storehouse of unprocessed memory which is alive in your subconscious mind. The subconscious expresses itself through the body which we can access in EFT sessions.

This is why in my approach to EFT I energetically scan your body-system etherically as we work through tension and emotion that arises.

Together we listen closely to the messages of the body for feedback - the sudden physical tensions, heaviness in the chest, anxiety in the stomach, the shooting pain, the breathlessness etc - as this is unprocessed emotion from memories arising in the body. This is what we clear and release as we Tap.

Using this technique, you can take back your power, sense of ease and resilience by truly releasing the past, not just knowing where your triggers came from but using them to help you heal.
